What distinguishes religion from science and philosophy is the knowledge it provides for a different realm of being, namely unseen contingency, ‘gayb’ in Islamic terminology.

Religion becomes religion when it enables the individual to access a realm of being and knowledge, which he/she is not capable of acquiring with his/her own intellectual or cognitive capacity otherwise. Religion enables human kind to get into contact with this transcendental realm under the guidance of revelation, which differs from the path of empirical knowledge, with the aim of fulfilling spiritual needs of human kind and letting it to attain the highest happiness. In the language of religion, this realm is gayb, the unseen contingency.

You can find the analyses, consideration and evaluation of various scholars and intellectuals in this book, about the following issues:

Islamic Metaphysics/ History of Metaphysics,

The Problem of Unseen (Ghayb) According to History of Religions on the Axis of Judaism and Christianity,

A Chronological Reading of Unseen (Ghayb) in Qur’an,

Unseen Contingency (Ghayb) During the Period when Islamic Sciences Were Constituted,

Mankind’s Relationship with Unseen Contingency.

“Obviously, if there is a ‘religion’, which fulfils its proper meaning, and if there is a ‘divine book’ and belief about a ‘prophet’, then there would be a belief and premise about which transcends ordinary and natural, and there would a realm of practical action as a necessary result of these…”

The first thing that comes to mind when religion is addressed, is its extraordinary and transcendental aspect so that there is a dimension of miracle. How is the notion of miracle developed under different religions? What is the role and the meaning of miracle in Islamic sources? How did humankind comprehend miracles since the ancient times? How can we explain the notion of miracle now in the era of modern science?

You can find the attempts of nearly 40 scholars to reply these questions in this book.

You can also find a consideration of the accumulation of knowledge in the literature about the following issues:

Miracle in the Ancient Beliefs and Cultures,

Miracle in Judaism and Christianity,

Miracle in Qur’an,

Miracles of Previous Prophets,

Miracle in the Prophet Muhammad era,

Miracle from the Point of the View of Islamic Studies,

The Possibility and Occurrence of Miracle,

Since the day it was revelated, Qur’an Kareem has been the founding element of Islamic Civilization, the major source of religious and earthly conceptions of Muslims. All religious disciplines have been developed around Qur’an Kareem and under its guidance. Independent from the school or conception Muslims followed, they focused on the meaning, recitation, history of orthography, tafsir, language and message of Qur’an and published libraries of works.

Universities are institutions in which information is addressed, criticized and discussed freely. KURAMER, which is founded within Istanbul 29 Mayis University, aims to execute and support studies under the framework of Qur’an. One of the leading good deeds, at the individual or institutional level, is conducting projects that would keep the bonds between our folk and sacred alive on a proper basis and contribute to this at an intellectual level. We believe that the proceedings of the workshop on ‘The Language of Religion’, which was held by KURAMER, will serve to such an aim.You can find this book, ‘The Language of Religion’, on www.kitapyurdu.com and in TDV book stores.
