The Language of Religion Workshop
During the Central Science Disciplines joint meeting, it had been suggested to convene workshops or scientific meetings on various fundamental issues that generate further discussions. The first workshop of these series, which are approved by Central Science Committee, was convened at 29 Mayis University Conference Hall, where around 50 scholars, expertise of whom is much appreciated in their own fields, attended on 25-26 April 2014.
The inaugural speech of the workshop, which is titled ‘The Language of Religion” and lasted for two full days, was delivered by Professor Ali Bardakoglu (Director of the Centre) and Professor Ibrahim Kafi Donmez (Chancellor, 29 Mayis University). Four papers, which had been sent beforehand to the invited scientists by the Centre, were presented during the workshop. Each paper was discussed thoroughly by two discussants and invited scholars.
The first paper, titled “Notes on the Ontological and Historical Features of Language”, was presented by Professor Burhanettin Tatar, who is also an author within the Centre. The discussants of this paper were Professor Zeki Ozcan and Associate Professor Aydin Isik.
The second paper, titled “The Notion of Cognateness in the Context of the Language of Religion”, was presented by Hikmet Zeyveli, who is also a member of our Science Committee. This paper was discussed by Professor Mustafa Ozturk and Dr. Latif Tokat.
The third paper had the title of “The Status of the Language of Religion in a Globalized World and The Problem of Understanding Religious Texts”. It was presented by Professor Tahsin Gorgun and discussed by Professor Ilhami Guler and Professor Aliye Cinar.
The last paper was presented by Assistant Professor Mehmet Sait Toprak and titled “The Antinomy of Revelation and Language: Specific to Miqra and Qu’ran”. The discussants of this presentation were Professor Omer Ozsoy and Assistant Professor Dursun Ali Aykit.
During the workshop, the sessions of which were chaired respectively by Professor Yusuf Sevki Yavuz, Professor Omer Ozsoy, Professor Omer Faruk Harman and Professor Recep Kilic, over 30 scholars contributed to the discussions by raising their criticisms and articulations.
We plan to publish these papers and full discussions in a book as part of KURAMER publication series.

Prof. Dr. İlhami Güler
1959 yılında Tortum'da dünyaya geldi.1980-1985 yılları arasında Ankara Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakülte...si'nde Lisans öğrenimini tamamladı.1987 yılında Aü İlahiyat Kelam Anabilim Dalı Araştırma Görevlisi olarak göreve başladı.1985-1991 yılları arasında AÜ Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsünde Prof.Dr. Mustafa S.Yazıcıoğlu danışmanlığında 'Kur'an'a Göre Allah Ve Ahiret' İnancının Ahlakla İlişkisi' konulu teziyle doktora öğrenimini tamamladı.1992-1993 yılları arasında Mısır'da Kahire Üniversitesinde dil öğrenimi gördü ve doktora sonrası araştırmalarda bulundu.1996 yılında Yard.Doçent,bir yıl sonra Doçent ve 2004 yılında Profesör oldu.Halen AÜ İlahiyat Fakültesin'de görev yapmaktadır.Evli ve İki çocuk babasıdır.
